Why a “Morning Offering”?

August 28, 2010 by Fr. Ben Cameron Leave a Comment

What is a “morning offering,” and why should we all make one?

Everything that we are and have is a gift from Almighty God, and it is fitting that we should offer ourselves, our thoughts, words, actions, prayers, sufferings — in short, everything that we are and everything that we have, back to the God who loves us.  This is a practice that has been lived by many generations of Catholics, but many of us today have lost sight of these basics of Catholic life.

Members of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Mercy seek to be perfectly conformed to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to live lives of holiness, lives of Divine Love.  We need to remind ourselves of these truths on a daily basis — and what better time than when we first get up in the morning.  We want to joyfully greet the Lord:  “Good morning, Lord!” rather than to groan, “Good Lord! It’s morning.”  In our morning offering, we pray for an end to abortion, for those who are in danger of going down that path that leads to abortion, and we pray for each other — that we may continue to receive the healing that the Lord Jesus alone can give, and that all of us will follow His path to holiness — to be Saints!
